PMS can be provoked by many things. This is a time of cleansing of the female energy. Whether this energy is of the women in the family, random strangers, toxic thoughts, female bullies, energy at the mall, etc., this is a time of reflection on all of it as well as a time of freedom.
Through this great cleansing, some of us have experienced female bullying from others and within ourselves. Hormones indeed can pull out the worst in us. Thus, toxic behaviors from one woman to another can be those of back stabbing, gossip, cattiness, and volatility like no other. As within us we can talk ourselves down, apologize for no reason, degrade who we really are, and be our own anti- thesis. Our hormones can be self-destructive and the ruin of great, sound relationships. We as a female species can be our own worst enemies.
The Language of PMS Project wants to change all this for the better by watering down the emotions and hormones through art and writing about this time of month. We want it right…proactively; getting away from dissensions and instead building relationships that are strong, sustained, and valued.
I hope this inspires us to create, talk and clear away our political agendas towards one another for a good, healthy support system for each other. May we give ourselves a second chance, forgive ourselves, and meet the ultimate agenda… freedom and peace for all so we can meet our fullest potential!
She’s been pushed to the brinks
A whipped beating here, a degrading insult there
The fire rumbled in her belly
With anger and fury…
Stay out of her way!
Oh yes her lashing out
Once she stands up for herself
Will break your trust
But the disrespect towards her
Has broken her trust in you.
She used to be a good person
Till the abuses compounded on her
And she ruptured like a
Nothing but loving kindness towards her
Nothing but tenderness and light.
She’ll calm down one day
But now there are sensitivities…
Her raging fire has even burnt
Truth without kindness is a falsehood
May we all learn a lesson
And keep at bay our projections
Till Dragon Lady finds a sense of peace
And from her rage, be free…
During this time around, I have either felt like or been made to feel like I’m stupid on my period. I made a mistake, said something wrong, miscommunicated something, or whatever. Yet I have noticed a pattern in how society treats a woman PMS’ing or on their period. I’ve experienced hyper criticism, mean spirits, even hatred. Either it’s an honest mistake or the person dishing out these vibes feels that way about themselves, who knows. With all of this we can get pretty down on ourselves. But I do think that this time of month we particularly need to give ourselves love and compassion or surround ourselves with those who understand, because the world around us won’t, even other women… Some people have never experienced PMS. Some people have never experienced a period. Some people have completely forgotten what it’s like to be in their menstrual cycles ether due to a hysterectomy or Menopause. Some women forget what it’s like to have symptoms of their period until their next monthly cycle! We have to love and have compassion for ourselves. Instead of making yourself feel small by saying that your I.Q. drops this time of month, take some time to tell yourself how proud you are of your accomplishments, tell yourself how far you’ve come in life, tell yourself, “ I Love You, “ because the mistakes will come, the ridicule will come, the humiliation will come. Use your self-love to stand up for yourself in constructive ways. The Language of PMS Project wants to help you love yourself by channeling it into productive, constructive ways so you don’t get self-destructive with all the negativity and harshness surrounding you or feelings within you.
As I worried about keeping my job while I was going through PMS the other day, I asked my husband, “Wouldn’t it be nice if women got some paid time off while going through PMS or their periods?” He said, “Yes, of course! Even if it’s just for a couple of days.” I meet so many women that just want to up and quit just about everything during their time of month. Their periods are a time of great melt down and rapid change making them ask themselves,” What just happened? I actually quit my job???” This is especially amongst women with PMDD where paranoia and anxiety runs high, where women will literally walk off jobs in fear. This is so unnecessary. It makes me wonder what you all think. With Obama passing laws that women will have equal pay
as men, should he also pass a law for job security for women going through their cycles? With a couple of paid days off a month to keep life together?
